Grading Tip: Avoiding Costly Mistakes

Hey folks, it’s Nick from Drain My Lawn, and today I’ve got a quick but crucial grading tip for you. If you’re out grading your yard, especially around sensitive spots like sewer clean-outs, listen up!

So, here’s the situation: I’m grading this yard in Charlotte, NC, and there’s a sewer clean-out hidden right here. You can see it now, but once dirt starts flying, it’s easy to forget it’s even there. The last thing you want is to accidentally run over it with your skid steer, breaking it, and then you’re stuck with a costly repair.

Pro Tip: Always mark it! Whether you flag it, place a cone over it, or just keep it uncovered, make sure it’s visible. Every time you cover it up with dirt, take a moment to uncover it before you pass through again. Trust me, it only takes about 30 seconds to forget where it is, and then—bam!—you’ve got a broken sewer line.

We’re pushing hard to get this grading job done before the rain hits, using the Harley rake for rough grading. Remember, it’s all about being mindful of what’s under the surface. Stay sharp, keep those critical spots in sight, and you’ll save yourself a lot of headaches down the road.

Alright, that’s it for today. Hope this tip helps you out. Have a great weekend, and as always, thanks for watching!
